Motor problems

Motor complaints are usually situated in the limbs and can appear in the form of loss of strength, limited mobility or increased residual muscle tension (spasticity) with spasms. This group of symptoms also includes balance problems, coordination issues with large muscle groups (ataxia), restricted eye movement and paralysis of vocal cords, mouth and throat muscles.

The approach for motor complaints focuses on movement, physical exercise and aiming for sufficient suppleness. A healthy lifestyle with attention for a balanced diet and weight control are also important. Medication can however be recommended to keep spasticity under control. In some cases, walking can be improved, or made safer, with a walking aid.
