Sexual problems

Sexual problems are not uncommon with MS. Impaired neurological control can affect the arousal stage, erection, vaginal fluid secretion and orgasm. Medicinal and psychological factors can also have an effect. The changes in body image, anxiety about no longer being attractive and fear of failure in sexual relations can affect the libido. Physical factors such as spasms, pain or incontinence can also hamper lovemaking.

Expectations of and from a healthy partner can change as the disease evolves. Sexual problems should not be seen as an isolated medical problem. A multidisciplinary approach will provide you with the right support.
