Since 1993, the NMSC has had a convention (i.e. a formal written agreement) with the RIZIV for the rehabilitation of people with MS and related neurological disorders. 50 hospital beds are reserved for patients undergoing intensive rehabilitation treatment.
A number of multidisciplinary rehabilitation goals, which require an intensive rehabilitation programme, can be set in consultation with the rehabilitation specialist for people with MS and related disorders who are not staying in residential care.
An individually customised multidisciplinary rehabilitation programme, with a minimum of 4 hours therapy per day and a maximum of 52 sessions per year.
The rehabilitation team consists of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, (neuro)psychologists, social workers, nurses and podiatrists.
Following a thorough analysis of your personal possibilities, questions and expectations, we will determine your individual rehabilitation goals in consultation with you. The team aims to limit the consequences of MS together with you, with the ultimate goal of optimal integration in your living and/or work environment and retention of the best quality of life possible. The rehabilitation specialist coordinates the programme in close collaboration with the neurologists. An admission in this programme lasts 3 to 4 weeks on average. There is no therapy at the weekends, so you can spend weekends at home if you wish.
If an intensive programme is (temporarily) not possible, there are also a limited number of places for maintenance rehabilitation within the rehabilitation convention.
The charging of the costs for hospitalisation takes place in accordance with the applicable RIZIV regulations. The convention provides for the reimbursement of the rehabilitation costs. Patients without enhanced health insurance pay a limited patient fee.
